| Frequently Asked Questions What is KYVU? KYVU is a one-stop place where you may access numerous online classes and programs offered by Kentucky’s colleges and universities. You can apply for admission, register, and access your class(es) from one or more institutions at the same time via KYVU. What Programs do you offer? You can view these by going to "Programs at KYVU" on our home page. Can I get a degree online? KYVU is committed to offering a substantial portion of our programs online. At this time, at least 75% or more of the program requirements are offered online. Is there a course catalog? Yes. There are two — one for college courses and one for professional training and career development opportunities. How much is tuition? The cost of tuition varies. Tuition is determined by the institution providing the course. Generally, the amount charged for college courses is the same as the provider’s regular tuition rate. For college courses, you can view the "tuition rates by institution" under "Student Services," or for professional courses, you can search the professional training courses by price. When do classes start? The start date for classes generally depends on the institution providing the course. Although some courses are self-paced and you can start whenever you are ready. Check the course schedule (college courses or professional training and career development courses) to find start dates. What computer hardware/software is needed? To find out what is needed, go to Prospective Students on the KYVU homepage and click on "Technology Requirements." How do I enroll/register for a course? To enroll/register for a class, go to www.kyvu.org and click on "Registration" for either college courses or professional training courses. If you have registered with KYVU previously, submit the registration form for "Current KYVU Student." If not, submit the form for "New KYVU Student." It is recommended that you first view the course information in the "Course Schedule" so that you’ll know if the class you’re interested in has been closed. How do I drop/add courses? Call us on our toll-free line at 1-877-740-4357 and we will be happy to make your change in KYVU records. If you are dropping a college course, we advise you to call the Registrar’s Office at the institution offering your course to ensure that your drop is properly recorded in their records and is received by their drop deadline. You need not contact the institution to add only. How do I apply to a program? To apply to a program for certification, contact the program coordinator directly. This person and information on how to contact them is listed with the program description at "Programs at KYVU." How do I purchase textbooks? KYVU students can select and purchase their course materials, supplies and other items at a discount with free shipping from the virtual college bookstore, Ecampus.com. You may also purchase your books from any other campus or online bookstore of your choice. Is Financial Aid available? If you want to take a college course, contact your Financial Aid Office at your home institution. You can find more information under "Student Services." What is the refund policy? Refunds are determined by the institution providing the course. Are the programs accredited? All institutions providing the courses are accredited. How are library resources accessed? To access library resources online, go to the Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) at www.kyvl.org or call 1.877.740 -HELP (4357) to speak with a Virtual Reference Librarian. Can I be a regular student at a university and take a course through KYVU? Yes. Some courses have restrictions and course requirements. Please view the "Course Schedule" to see what restrictions might apply and what is required. Is AOL compatible? AOL is compatible. However, you must use the most current version (4.0 or higher). Can I take a college course at one institution and transfer the academic credit to another? It is best to discuss this issue with your faculty advisor. All courses will transfer, but they may not apply to your degree program.
