The Sloan Semester
The Sloan Semester is a collaboration
of the Sloan Consortium and the Southern Regional Education Board currently
offering over 1,250 courses from over 200 colleges. Courses are offered tuition free to students displaced by
Hurricane Katrina. Visit the Sloan Semester web site for details.

Other Opportunities Nationwide
- Argosy University
- Assisting students from universities in New Orleans, southern Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama,
by making both on-campus and online courses available.

- An information clearinghouse for both institutions and students as recovery from Katrina continues.
- Dallas
County Community Colleges
- Offering online classes, weekend courses, and special sections to meet students’ needs.
- eLearners.com
- A free resource connecting displaced college students to educational opportunities.
- Fairleigh Dickenson University
- Offering traditional and on-line courses to students displaced by Hurricand Katrina. These students are eligible
for awards of up to 50 percent off the University’s posted tuition rate.
- Marylhurst University
- Awarding 20 need-based scholarships to undergraduate college students disrupted by Hurricane Katrina. Courses may be taken
online.
- Minnesota State Colleges and Universities
- Students may take undergraduate or graduate courses from online certificate, diploma, or
degree programs, and displaced workers may access workforce training.
- North Carolina Central University
- Distance education courses are available to students displaced by Hurricane Katrina, with classes beginning on October 1, 2005.
- Peirce College
- Offering traditional and online courses for students displaced by Hurricane Katrina at a 25 percent tuition discount
(of Peirce College tuition rates).
- South University
- Offering admission and free tuition to transient students who affected by Hurricane Katrina. Undergraduate and
graduate students may seek enrollment for the fall 2005 quarter, beginning Oct. 3.
- University of North Carolina
- While traditional offerings are for native Carolinians displaced by Katrina, online courses are available to out-of-state
residents as well as in-state.
- University of Wyoming
- Offering available online courses at in-state tuition to displaced students.
