Detailed Charge
- To recommend academic policies and procedures to the CEO (or designee) of the KYVU, especially on the following issues:
- Process and priorities for selecting existing degree, certificate, and non-credit programs from Kentucky institutions for offerings at a distance;
- Creation, operation, and awarding of joint or multi-campus degrees and certificate programs for distance learners;
- Acceptance and transfer of academic credit earned at a distance between and among both Kentucky and out-of-state postsecondary institutions;
- Responsibility for academic advising of distance learners;
- Process and priorities for developing new Kentucky-based programs for distance learners, especially competency-based programs;
- Process and priorities for choosing providers outside of Kentucky to offer programs to meet the needs of Kentucky students;
- Developing institutional and statewide programs for providing professional development opportunities for faculty and professional staff interested in teaching and/or supporting teaching at a distance;
- Development of guidelines for course syllabi offered at a distance through the KYVU;
- Policies and procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of courses and programs offered at a distance; and
- Priorities for scheduling course and program offerings on satellite and compressed video.
- To discuss ways in which institutions can provide incentives and recognition for faculty who teach at a distance.
- To identify academic and related issues for discussion that are of a multi-campus nature or focus specifically on the needs of, and/or barriers to, distance learners.
- To evaluate pilot project proposals, and to make recommendations to the Distance Learning Advisory Committee.
- To develop and recommend policies and procedures for the routine deliberations and activities of the Academic Council as they pertain to the CVU.
- To form sub-committees as needed to address various issues included in charge.
- To choose a time and place for regular meetings (see Timetable below).
Timetable
The Academic Council met approximately once a month during the 1998-99 academic year (until the planning and implementation phase was completed). Thereafter, the Academic Council will establish a schedule of regular meetings each year.
