SMARTHINKING™ Provides Leading-Edge Technology and Academic Support Solutions for Students at Premier Online University
WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 16, 2001) –
Beginning this Fall, Kentucky Virtual University (KYVU) will offer
its students around-the-clock online tutoring and academic support
services provided by SMARTHINKING, the nation’s leading provider
of online tutoring and academic assistance for college students.
SMARTHINKING will provide KYVU with a tailored learning support
solution that effectively blends its web-based technology platform,
qualified e-structors (tutors), and related training and consulting
services.
"SMARTHINKING is helping us build the kind of innovative
education today’s students demand," says Dr. Daniel Rabuzzi,
KYVU’s Interim CEO. "SMARTHINKING provides a tool that
will help us ensure that any of our students can access the
help and support they need, whenever they need it. All our students
need is a connection to the Internet."
Available as an ASP (hosted) solution, the SMARTHINKING Learner
Support Management (LSM) Platform enables institutions to deliver
an institution-wide online academic support program that can
combine institution-based tutors with SMARTHINKING’s corps of
qualified e-structors. Students may ask questions in synchronous,
asynchronous, and pre-scheduled, online tutoring sessions. Insert

In addition, SMARTHINKING records and archives all interactions
permitting access and sorting for future review and use by the
student or institution.
SMARTHINKING will host an online writing lab, KYVU Write Place,
which will be staffed and managed by the University of Kentucky.
ALL KYVU students will have access to the writing lab for a
fee. Distance learning students at both KYVU and the Kentucky
Community and Technical College System will also have 24-hour
free access to SMARTHINKING’s other tutorial services in core
courses including math, statistics, economics, accounting, grammar,
chemistry and Spanish. In addition to hosting the KYVU Write
Place, SMARTHINKING will train KYVU’s writing instructors to
use the technology and operate the online lab.
"KYVU is one of the most successful online universities
in operation," said Burck Smith, co-founder and chief executive
officer of SMARTHINKING. "We are thrilled that KYVU has
chosen our technology and our tutors to provide its online students
with the same level of academic support as campus-based students."
